It was my first blog post ever over at Myspace back when Myspace was a thing.
Check it out
Things were so different for me back then. I was 38 and a stay-at-home mum to kids 6, 7 and 9. I was probably 10 pounds lighter even though I worked out far less (actually, not at all) than I do today. I had no idea what the next 10 years would hold for me and my little family. Heartbreaks, deaths, sicknesses, bad stuff, cool stuff, nerd stuff, cosplay, trips, graduations, hirings, firings, new shoes... the whole gamut of human craziness.
Ten years later, I feel glad of most of those experiences. I wish a few hadn't happened but I believe that everything that happens makes you the person you are today. Warts and all, I do like the person I am today, so I request no do-overs, thank-you very much. Let's move ahead, not back.
Speaking of ahead, let's think about the next 10 years. I'll be 58 years old. Can I just get the yikes out of the way? Yikes. My kids will all have moved out (please God) and my now old dog Wesley will be a constant reminder of the kids who never call anymore. I'll have finally retired and Scott and I will finally be able to travel. One big trip and one road trip per year. We'll see cool funky places, eat weird food and meet amazing people who'll inspire us.
Most of this (except for those ungrateful kids) sounds like such a great plan, I'm actually looking forward to the next 10 years. Bring it on, life. Do your best/worst.

Back to boring
Yup, after my interesting year so far with Wesley the dog and AJ Raphael twitter-liking the YouTube video of me mangling his song at ukulele night, nothing much has happened.
Except for setting off the fire alarm at my school with a sparkler and bringing several hunky firefighters and a couple of trucks screaming to our door this morning. Hey, it counts as our monthly fire drill, right?
Yup, nothing interesting to see here at all.
Oh, I can't forget this nugget that I found on my bathroom mirror this morning. You know, when you feel shitty from lack of sleep and you are hoping for 10 feet of snow to cancel school just for one more hour in bed, it's pretty sweet to find a post-it like this on your bathroom mirror.
What a swell guy. Even after 28(!) years...
And, no, I didn't drive away from the house with the car still plugged in like I have done in the past so there's that. See? Boring.

And 2016 keeps getting more and more interesting
I'm a dog person now. Have been for 4 days. Ask me anything. I dare you. I'll look at you with a blank, slightly panicked stare then get a little twitch in my eye.
Back in October, Audrey presented her father and I with a PowerPoint presentation trying to convince us (yet again) to get a dog. It was so good that her father and I relented and decided we'd go through with this.
Fast forward to Wednesday last week when a West Highland Terrier showed up at our front door. Things from October to last week moved so very slowly then suddenly, within 2 days, we had a dog. Crazy.
The first couple of days were a bit scary. More indoor poops thank I care to mention, some alarming howling and we used up all 10 pee pads, but this weekend was incredible. We found our dream dog. He's perfect, guys.
So that's been my last few days. How have you all been?

Well, that was interesting
Because I'm a teacher, my holiday started on the 18th. Scott and I saw Star Wars which started the holiday amazingly.
The following day we packed up the gang and drove to Montreal to see my dad. We stayed for a couple of days and had a nice Christmas with the grands.
All the while I've been knitting knitting knitting mittens, no less. I've knitted so many that I've sped up and now I'm able to make one in two hours
Then Christmas morning came and I made Ooey Gooey Cinnamon rolls, my traditional Christmas morning breakfast. This will be the last time I make such a big batch since every year there are more and more left over. This year we ate the last one yesterday. Seriously.
Of course there was the haul. In addition to the usual nerdy stuff, I got this little gem that I'm using to write this post today.
Then it was time for dinner... Scott gets these gems from work every year. Fifteen pounds of juicy tryptophan deliciousness...
Two days after Christmas is Henry's birthday. No problem. All hands on deck for cake baking and a little sleepover party with his friends. He's finally 16 and ready for his driver's ed.
Not ones to let grass grow under our feet, it was off to Toronto for a few days. Just because.
This guy from the ROM made me laugh..
So did this one...
And this one.
We also went to the aquarium which was spectacular
And the CN Tower
And Casey and Finnegan's treehouse
We messed around the CBC building pretending we were tv stars and generally had a wonderful time. I love travelling with the kids. It sounds cliche but we really do spend quality time together. It's so great!
Oh, then this happened. On New Year's Day I noticed a video I'd posted ages ago got its first twitter like. It was me playing a cute little song at ukulele night. Who was it? Only the man who wrote and performed the song! What an amazing way to start 2016!
So how was your holiday?

When we got home I took the gift certificate I got from work and went straight to my favourite shoe store where I got not one but two pairs of shoes.
