I LOVED this movie! I was hearing a lot of lukewarm reviews and a lot of my friends weren't keen on it so I was fully prepared to hate it. I thought it was so great! I love a good and fun caper movie. Fun and funny and great clothes. My favourite so far. I've got 3 more to see by Sunday and I'm making it a mission to do it before Sunday evening. This is happening, people...

Well, that was a gut punch
Scott and I are back to trying to see all the Best Picture Oscar nominees after a week off. Saw 12 Years A Slave yesterday and... Jesus.
I consider myself EXTREMELY lucky to have been born in this day and age when I can travel, live and fall in love completely free of, well, every frigging thing that went on in that movie. I find it absolutely terrifying that this wasn't very long ago in the general scheme of things. I'm so grateful, you have no idea.
Anyway, after that ray of sunshine, we're going to see Philomena today. I'm expecting more cheerful things. It couldn't be more depressing than kidnapping and whippings could it? But you never know... it stars Judy Dench.

at 2:01 today I...
was practicing the uke and listening to a podcast. Frankly, I could have been doing worse. Or better. Remember last week? And no, I didn't have to link to it... it's literally 2 posts away but I love it so much.

Trying to get back to normal
After a week of traipsing around Orlando at Disneyworld, I went back to work today. I thought it'd be really hard to leave the literal and figurative warmth of fairyland and go back to freezing and dull old reality but strangely it wasn't. I must really enjoy my job. I was even looking forward to getting back. That said, I have a newsletter to write that I would have done last week had I been home. Stop distracting me. Here's my favourite photo of the trip.
Look! It's me and a pretty pretty princess (and my daughter) |

Happy Valentines to most
I say most because a lot of singles people don't celebrate this holiday invented by the Hallmark company and blah blah blah. Actually I don't think they actually did but they sure PR'd the hell out of it, didn't they?
This VD will be the best celebrated by the Kayes because we're off to Disney World in an hour. I'm the most excited person in the house (it's the teen boys that swing down the enthusiasm average... all shoulder shruggy and meh) and I attribute it to being stalled in a childlike state even at the advanced age of 46 plus the fact that I've never been there before. The happiest person on earth (me, natch) at the Happiest Place on Earth? I expect some kind of mental implosion.
Side note, when my alarm rang at 5am, the song playing on the radio was "Some Guys Get All the Luck" by Rod Stewart, I kid you not. Bodes well, eh?

PS: I'm not sure about the WiFi situation while I'm gone and I, frankly, may be too hepped up to actually post but wait until the blowout post when I get back. It'll be epic.

at 2:01 today I
was packing!
Oh man, it is a pain. I had to bring all the vacuum packed summer clothes out of the smelly, hockey jock festooned furnace room and pop them open. Everything is super wrinkled and I don't want to iron anything so I'm just going to wash the lot and just so we're clear, I'm not complaining, I promise. Because in mere hours we'll all be on our way to Disneyworld. I swear, I've never been happier to throw in a load of whites.
Plus at some point next week I'm going to shoot guns again. No wonder you Americans love your firearms. Spending a few hours blowing off some steam at the firing range is my idea of heaven. So there's that. Nope, DEFINITELY not complaining.

Pyjama Day at school
Is there anything better than Pyjama Day at preschool? Of course my showing up the way I really sleep, in panties and a tank top, would be only slightly unacceptable. My tossing and turning at night turns anything loose into a mummy shroud and I wake up freaking out. So I have special "for show" pjs worn only on this special day of the year.
There's a story behind these jammies. They are nearly 30 years old, made for me by the mum of an ex-boyfriend. I suspect she really liked me and wanted me to stick around. Why specifically pyjamas is a mystery. Who makes someone else jammies? Anyway, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) the boy in question had a wandering eye and my love for him didn't last as long as my love for these pyjamas.

I never wear them any other time except on my school's pyjama day (every school I've ever worked at has at least one a year) which is why they haven't been destroyed yet. So there you have it. A long, rambling post about pyjamas. Who'd have thunk it?
And I can't let this post go by without sharing how adorable my kids are. Check it...

Well, this is new...
While stopped at a traffic light yesterday I noticed a woman rooting around in her purse on the front seat beside her. I kept my eye on her since I thought she was looking for a phone, and I wanted to be ready with my evillest dirty look. She wasn't.
Incredibly, she pulled out an electric toothbrush and proceeded to brush her teeth. And kept doing it as the light changed, and the traffic moved ahead. I couldn't believe it, and I had to try to get a shot. It's obviously terrible because I was trying to stay abreast of her, and she was going surprisingly fast. I've seen many people doing many bizarre things in a moving vehicle (including some penis stuff I wish I could unsee), but this one takes the case.
